Attorney General Continues Investigations into Derna Tragedy and Foreign Minister Allegations

Libyan Attorney General Siddiq Al-Sour has confirmed that investigations into the Derna tragedy are continuing. He stated that the results will be made public once all evidence has been collected.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Al-Sour emphasized that there is no need for international involvement in the investigation. He expressed confidence in the Libyan judicial system’s ability to handle the case.

Al-Sour also addressed the case involving a meeting between the Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush and the Israeli Foreign Minister. He confirmed that he had requested a report from intelligence services and is taking further steps in the investigation. Al-Sour stressed that the case remains under investigation, with a commitment to complete neutrality and avoidance of politicization.

The Attorney General also highlighted previous efforts that have led to the drafting of two new laws concerning penalties and criminal procedures. In response to identified gaps in current legislation, Al-Sour revealed plans for an international conference aimed at evaluating Libyan legislation.

Al-Sour concluded by emphasizing the urgent need for a comprehensive review of existing criminal legislation. He called for these laws to be reorganized and their general rules unified.
