The Libyan Defense Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) has confirmed that it has not been informed by the Interior Ministry about “Operation Snake Hunt”.
The Defense Ministry added in a statement on Sunday that neither the western nor Tripoli military zones had been informed about the operation, which was announced by the Interior Ministry.
“Our main goal is to secure the country and protect the citizens by uniting security and military institutions across Libya to work effectively in fighting terrorism, extremism, human trafficking and organized crime.” The Defense Ministry explained.
It also called on all security apparatuses to coordinate with the ministry’s security and military units in order to ensure effective and real results that help prevail security and stability in the country.
Meanwhile, The Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, told The Associated Press last week that he hoped the US would back an upcoming operation in the west “to finish off terrorist elements that have infiltrated Libya,” saying “Turkey has already pledged support” and stressed that “the security and stability of Libya is important for Europe and the US”.
