EU mission calls for the release of prisoners in Ramadan and acceptance of Bathily’s initiative

The European Union (EU) mission has urged the Libyan parties to act in the “spirit of the holy month of Ramadan” and release all those arbitrarily detained, as a gesture of good faith.

In a statement marking the advent of the month of Ramadan, the mission called for putting aside differences and making progress in national reconciliation and unity.

It called on the Libyan leaders to accept the invitation of UN envoy Abdullah Bathily to meet without further delay, preferably during Ramadan.

The EU mission further called on Libyan leaders to urgently agree on the necessary reforms needed to maintain stability, so that Libyans can celebrate the holidays without fear and suffering.
