HoR members, mayors and brigade leaders voice support for Presidential Council, elections

House of Representatives’ members, mayors and senior leaders of armed brigades in Tripoli and the western region have reiterated in a televised statement support for the Presidential Council to form a national unity government that will pave the way for elections in next December.

The statement rejected Saturday the participation of any party that backed the aggression that was led by Khalifa Haftar and Aqila Saleh on Tripoli.

The statement also reiterated that all Libyans are “partners in the country”, yet rejected the fait accompli policy, saying any solution to the crisis should come from inside Libya via holding elections on time.

In the meantime, the Head of the Presidential Council visited Rome on Friday and held a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, discussing with him the latest developments in all solution tracks, and reiterating that the Government of National Accord was supporting the High National Elections Commission to help it carry out a successful election by the year’s end.
