Libya: Pregabalin-selling drug dealers nabbed

The Libyan Attorney General’s (AG) Office has ordered the detention of 17 people, including employees at the Misrata Port for being involved in a “drug dealing gang”. The AG Office ordered the arrest of 30 other persons involved in the gang.

The Office said the drug dealers had imported three million “pregabalin” tablets using forged official permits from relevant authorities and distributed them in Zliten, Al-Ajilat, Al-Zintan and Al-Zawiya cities.

“The culprits confessed to the crime. They said that the drugs were imported from different sources and distributed for sale in different cities in Libya.” The AG Office explained.

Pregabalin is used to treat epilepsy and anxiety. It’s also taken to treat nerve pain. It is an anticonvulsant, analgesic and anxiolytic medication used to treat neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome, opioid withdrawal and generalized anxiety disorder. Pregabalin also has antiallodynic properties.
