Libya requests China’s support in reforming the Security Council

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Al-Taher Al-Baour, met with the Special Representative of the Chinese Government for African Affairs, Liu Yuxi, to discuss the relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Chinese side expressed its readiness to continue supporting Libya’s stability and discussed a proposal to cooperate with Libya as a member of the G10 of the African Union to reform the Security Council.

The African continent is seeking to obtain two permanent seats on the UN Security Council, with Libya leading these efforts as a member of the G10. Al-Baour emphasized Libya’s position in support of unifying the African position regarding the ongoing negotiations in the process of reforming the UN Security Council. He also pointed out the possibility that China could play an important role in supporting the process of African demands to obtain the continent’s full rights in the Security Council.

Libya is set to participate in the G10 meeting at the level of experts and foreign ministers and the summit meeting of member states, which will be held on the 25th of this month.
