Relief teams rescue survivors 96 hours after floods in Derna

In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, relief teams currently working in east Libya successfully rescued two young men in the city of Derna, 96 hours following the devastating flood that engulfed the city last Monday.

The Ministry of Health of the parallel government, appointed by the House of Representatives (HoR), released a statement praising the relentless efforts of the rescue teams. The statement highlighted the rescue of 26-year-old Nabil Mansour Suleiman and 34-year-old Ramadan Al-Faitouri, both of whom were found 96 hours post-flood. The Ministry confirmed that both individuals are currently in stable condition and are receiving care at a field hospital in Derna.

Walid Al-Arfi, a spokesperson for the Emergency Committee in the east, commended the international rescue teams for their tireless work in searching for survivors and retrieving victims from the rubble. Al-Arfi gave special recognition to Turkish rescue teams who managed to save an entire family in Derna after one family member alerted them to their location.

The floods resulting from Storm “Daniel” swept across several eastern regions of Libya earlier this week, including among other cities Derna, Al-Bayda, and Sousse. The storm has reportedly claimed over 6,000 lives and left thousands missing according to Saad El-Din Abdel-Wakil, Deputy Minister of Health in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
