The African Development Bank funds a One Million Dollar grant for Libya’s flood-affected areas

The African Development Bank (AfDB) announced the provision of an emergency grant worth one million dollars, which will be directed through UNICEF, in cooperation with the Government of National Unity (GNU), to those most affected by the floods that swept the eastern region last September.

During a meeting in the capital, Tripoli, the AfDB signed 3 agreements to grant emergency technical assistance to Libya. UNICEF will focus on providing safe water and supplies needed to reopen schools, as well as maintaining psychosocial services.

The AfDB Deputy Director General for North Africa, Malinne Blomberg, affirmed the Bank’s commitment to Libya, noting that improving the well-being of the Libyan people through a strategic and sustainable approach is at the forefront of their priorities.

Blomberg also called for building the Libyan government’s capacity to manage public finances, through digitizing national financial operations for greater efficiency and transparency.
