Despite Takala’s objection, Agila Saleh appoints a new Director for the Hajj Authority

Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Agila Saleh, issued a decree appointing a Director for the new Authority for Hajj which the HoR recently established in a controversial step that was challenged by the High Council of State (HCS).

The President of the HCS, Mohamed Takala, announced that the Council rejected the decision by the HoR to establish a separate authority for Hajj .

The HCS letter, issued on December 11, called for the revocation of the decision which was deemed to be in “contradiction to the political agreement”.

Muhammad Saleh, the newly appointed director by the HoR, had previously been dismissed from membership in the Hajj Affairs Authority after an investigation was conducted by an administrative investigation committee in 2022, regarding violations during the Hajj season.
