Aoun calls for keeping the oil fields out of disputes

The Ministry of Oil and Gas of the Government of National Unity (GNU) called on all parties to keep oil and gas production and export operations out of any disputes, stressing its support for addressing local demands and rights and redressing injustice.

The Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the loss of confidence in the continuity of supplying the global market with Libyan oil results in Libyan oil remaining unmarketed or decreasing its demand, adding the possibility of losing clients irretrievably, resulting from fear of instability in the country.

The Ministry indicated the possibility of returning to the declaration of force majeure and other possible measures, which would force partners to look for an alternative other than Libya, explaining that the risk of closing the Libyan oil market is great and that the countries participating with Libya in production will be affected by this suspension.

The statement pointed out that the processes of stopping production and then reopening it again, and the maintenance operations required and the consequential technical challenges regarding equipment and mechanisms for extracting, producing and refining oil, will all require extensive effort, a long time, and a high cost borne by the state.
